Word Families With Animal Families!

Welcome to Word Families With Animal Families! 
If your child has learned the letters and letter sounds, this class is a good fit for your child. Each lesson will have a different animal that introduces the letter sounds and the word family.  For those animal-loving students, this is a great way to get them excited about the letters that 'pop up' on the slide. We will blend the words as a group in the beginning of the lesson and later, each student will be given the opportunity to make the letter sounds to blend their own words at their pace. 
Within each lesson, there will be: 
- A letter sound rhyming chant 
- A new animal to introduce the letters
- 6 beginning letter sounds to blend into the word family
- A sight word identification page to find the words we have learned
- A story to identify the words we have read, including fun pictures!
- A mini-quiz to test the student's memory of CVC words from the story.
- A fill-in-the-blank section to fill in the a missing letter from each CVC word. 
- A writing slide to write the letter together as I say the sound, if time allows at the end of the lesson. 

We will practice blending the sounds together as a group and individually. We will read a short story with the words learned during the lesson.

Week of 5/24/2021 - 5/28/2021: Word families with '-at'
In this class, we will go over the letter sounds '-a'/'-t', along with 'p', 's', 'r', 'h', 'b', 'c' 
Sight words include: 'I', 'my', 'need', 'his', 'he'
The animal for this week is a monkey!

Week of 5/31/2021 - 6/4/2021: Word families with '-ot'
In this class, we will go over the letter sounds '-ot', along with 'p', 'n', 'r', 'h', 'c', 'g'
Sight words include: 'have', 'can', 'it', 'am'
The animal for this week's lesson is an elephant!

Week of 6/7/2021 - 6/11/2021: Word families with '-it'
We will go over the sounds that form the word family '-it', while blending with 'f', 'h', 'l', 's', 'b', 'p'
Sight words to practice include: 'She', 'don't', 'down', 'tea'
The animal introducing our word family will be a tiger!

Week of 6/14/2021 - 6/18/2021: Word families with '-ug'
We will go over letter sounds that form '-ug' and blend with 'h', 't', 'm', 'b', 
This week's sight words: 'give', 'see', 'have'
The animal that introduces our word family is a cat!

As this is an ongoing class, for the following weeks, we will continue with new word families and a different animal each week. As you notice the animal that will be in each lesson, feel free to bring your own stuffed animal or animal figure that relates to the lesson. We will have so much fun!
