Word families significantly increase the number of words your child can master. Instead of learning one or two words per spelling pattern, your child can learn eight to twenty-five words without much additional effort. A knowledge of word families helps your child to recognize unfamiliar words quickly and so builds their confidence during the difficult early reading stages.
