In this class, I will guide students through different strategies to help with reading new or difficult words. Using slides I have created I will show the student how to break a word down into pieces they know and then build upon that knowledge to sound out the remainder of the word. Each student will be given the opportunity to interact throughout the lesson by being called upon or encouraged to participate at their own comfort level. Students will need to have a basic understanding of their letters, sounds, and basic beginner reading skills.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to break a word into parts and then reconstruct them back into recognizable words.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Grace and I am very excited to meet and teach your child! I have over 24 years of experience working with children. I have a Bachelor's degree in Game Art and Design, focusing on Educational Content. I also have an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education. I spent 8 years teaching English as a second language in Wiesbaden, Germany, and El Paso, Texas to children ages 0 to 13. I also homeschooled my children while we moved around the world as a military family. I like to use props, movement, games, or anything that helps the child to understand the concept in a fun and positive way!
When I am out of the classroom, I am spending time with my family playing games, building furniture, or working on craft projects. I love art and consider myself a Maker. If it is something I can create with my hands I can and WILL do it! I love art so much that when I lived in Germany I took the opportunity to visit as many museums as possible while studying Art History at the University of Maryland.
See you in the classroom!
