What's included

1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. Students will receive a mix of optional and required homework assignments. Flashcards will be provided ahead of class via a Quizlet link posted in the classroom chat. These will be strictly for the student’s use as they feel it is necessary. There will be one required homework assignment for each class. Students will need to come up with one word per vocabulary chunk that they did not use in class, and write a sentence per word. These sentences will be graded based upon how well they demonstrate the learner’s grasp of the definition of the word and how to use it in a sentence.
Letter Grade

Class Experience

Every class will follow a basic pattern:

The first part of class will go over the prefix, suffix, and root or base for the lesson. These will change every class. This particular course will focus on developing a strong grasp of how English vocabulary works to act as a foundation for future learning.

There will be a short in-class assessment to make sure all students have grasped the content before moving on. This will be a mixed written and verbal format. For students who do particularly well, there will be a bonus root or base they can choose to add at this point.

The majority of the lesson will be spent in a game night style setting. Students will have a chance to play modified versions of Pictionary, Hangman, Jeopardy, and Family Feud to minimize how much time is spent learning a new game, and maximize the time spent having fun practicing new information.

The winning team at the end of the night will get to pick the game for the next week.

Calendar:
**PLEASE NOTE: The content for the first few classes is designed to allow students to master the function of the content and class first, then transition into the normal format.

The first class will cover the function of roots, bases, prefixes, and suffixes.

The second class will cover the prefixes [a-, im-, il-, and ir-] and the suffixes [-s and -ly]. This class will encourage learners to come up with their own base words so as to most efficiently build their skill with using prefixes and suffixes.

The third class will start shifting to the normal curriculum format for this course. This class will cover the prefixes [re- and un-] and the suffixes [-ed, and -ing]. The students will still be encouraged to use their own roots and bases.

The fourth class will cover the prefix [in-], the base [flex] and the suffix [-ible/ -able].

The overall teaching style for the lesson will be a mix of lecture and class discussion, with an opportunity for one-on-one feedback during the build portion. I will be focusing mostly on correct grammar usage, spelling, and clarifying word meanings.
