Word by Word: Basic Grammar and Sentence Writing

This class covers the first important step in the writing process. Constructing strong sentences. What is a sentence? What is a noun? A verb? We'll cover this and more and then use our newly learned parts of speech to make sentences. Students will pick from lists of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs and work together with me to make sentences from them. 

I'll use slides to introduce the definition of a sentence and the parts of speech we'll be working with. Then we'll use these parts of speech to create our own sentences. I'll write the group collaboration sentences in google docs as a visual aid and for those who will copy them on paper at home. The short instruction portion will be interactive and the sentence writing will be all collaboration and full student participation.
