Description
Class Experience
Each week students will practice spelling and writing words by manipulating that week's letters (a list of that week's letters will be provided in the classroom each week), learning about spelling patterns and phonics along the way. There will be a mystery word each week that uses all of the letters that students will be encouraged to figure out. The class is structured in that I will give students a word for them to try to spell with their letter tiles (I will provide a list of letters...
Students will improve their spelling and reading abilities by building onto their knowledge of phonics and spelling patterns.
I have been in the world of education since 2001 when I completed my degree in elementary education. I was a teacher teaching mainly teaching 1st-3rd grade students and I also earned my M.A. in literacy during that time as well. I taught in the public school environment until 2016, when I decided to take my passion for education out of the traditional school system. Once I left the classroom, I was the private educator for a 2nd grade child whose parents wanted the homeschool experience, but did not want to homeschool him themselves. I loved how I was able to personalize his instruction based on his needs and interests! I am now an online teacher and tutor. I still have maintained my Michigan teaching certificate. I love teaching a variety of topics and I have over 18 years of experience with children. Currently, I am interested in teaching math, reading, and social studies in the elementary grades. I also teach students in one-on-one tutoring sessions in reading, ELA, and math. I am interested in helping all kinds of students including those who are struggling to meet grade level proficiency, students that need an extra challenge, students that are homeschooling/unschooling/worldschooling, students who are switching from homeschool to public school or vice versa, and students in semester long courses for their respective grade year, and more. I have a passion for making learning a fun and enjoyable experience while using games and activities as much as possible! I am extremely dedicated to my students and their overall achievement and confidence level when it comes to education. I am more than just a one class or session resource for your child as you can depend on me as a continuous resource and I will help you as much as possible in class and after class is completed!
No homework is required, but students are encouraged to practice rebuilding the words and writing sentences using them.
Students will need to have some sort of letter tiles to be successful in this class. You can use scrabble tiles, magnets, or letter tiles like these: https://www.amazon.com/Eureka-Letter-Classroom-Supplies-Educational/dp/B000FA6DXS/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=alphabet+tiles&qid=1613749638&sr=8-3. They should also have a notebook and a pencil. It is important that they only have that lesson's letters so as not to confuse them.
There is no formal assessment for this class.
20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
I have a dog, but he rarely barks.
