During this 45-minute, one-time class, learners will be immersed into the amazing world of the woods. They will watch incredible images and videos of woodland walks and are encouraged to share their own walking experiences with each other. We will look at a few guidelines from the English Country Code on how to stay safe in a woodland environment. This class is designed to encourage listening, observational, fine-motor skills and most importantly developing essential life skills. My class...
To encourage physical exercise and exploration in the great outdoors! To be able to follow step-by-step visual demonstrations to make their own wand. To communicate with other students through verbal and visual strategies.
I have been a qualified Special Education Teacher for 17 years and also recently qualified as a Forest School Leader. I have worked with special education/neurodiverse children in alternative education for the past ten. I have vast experience of teaching children of all ability levels. Academically this class is paced at a lower developmental/cognitive age of 5-7 years. However, social interaction and verbal communication will be age appropriate for an older child (11-15 years).
No homework will be provided after this class, however it would be great if students continued enjoying their woodland wanders in the great outdoors!
Students need a stick suitable to make a wand. One collected off the ground during a woodland walk is perfect. Pieces of string, ribbon, card, paper etc to add to the end of the wand. Glue
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parents/carers may need to assist adding ribbons, card, paper etc to their wand. I will be using Canva to screen share a PowerPoint. No account is required.
We will be referring to the English Countryside Code during discussions of how to stay safe in the woodland environment.
