Dress Fancy or Wacky and play Word games with Miss Kara. We will be playing games designed to strengthen spelling, sentence structure, and becoming comfortable with sight words and some new words. Games may include finding new words within a phrase or silly nonsense words and rearranging sight words and some new words to make a sentence, without the pressure of a strict lesson, so learners can relax and feel comfortable with their new friends while we build phonics and reading skills and confidence in our abilities. The session will include taking phrases/sentences like "I can take" into pulling out easily identified words like "cat", "kite", "an", etc. Or arranging flash cards shown by Miss Kara: "it" "and" "want" "see" "I" "more" into a complete sentence: "I see it and want more." We do a lot of rhyming, as well as finding words that start with a particular letter (for example: what tasty treat would you bring to a tea party that starts with the letter "C"). Learners will get a lot of time to share their thoughts and will benefit from fellow learners' ideas, as we take turns sharing so everyone gets a chance to participate. Miss Kara will introduce the game and then allow learners time to see the words and find their new words or sentences, and will offer help and hints as needed, and then we will take turns sharing our ideas and discoveries with the group. While not a traditional make-believe Tea Party, the loose theme is woven into some of our games to add a bit of whimsy. This class is a great fit for readers who can read some words and know the letter sounds to try to sound out new words. I can't wait to see you in Wonderland!
