Wonder Book Club📚

Wonder is a story about a ten-year-old boy who lives in Manhattan and who has a rare physical deformity.
It is told from the points of view of multiple characters: primarily the deformed Auggie himself, but also his sister, his friends, and his enemies.  Having so many perspectives, it allows readers to understand how Auggie's entire community struggles to learn compassion and empathy. While interacting with someone who looks different from them, these other characters discover that Auggie has so much to offer on the inside.  
While reading this novel, students learn to open their eyes and see the beauty that is all around us.  It promotes great discussions for children on what it feels like to be singled out, and learn the importance of kindness and compassion.  We will focus on reading the novel, engaging in thought provoking questions, and completing a variety of captivating activities.  Some reading comprehension skills we will learn are new vocabulary, group discussions, main idea, making inferences, drawing conclusions, figurative language, and journal writing. This is a great novel to study character analysis, and we will do a storyboard about Characters.
