During "Women's History Month Story Time Read-A-Loud", students will celebrate International Women's day by exploring and enjoying an enthusiastic read-a-loud from the best-selling book "She Persisted!" In this class, we will learn about 13 different historical figures! Learners will then be able to chose a coloring/doodle note page (or two) to complete about their favorite female historical figures. Students will have the opportunity to interact with the teacher and students through engaging and thoughtful questions throughout the class. Class Structure: 1) Hellos & Book Introduction 2) Pre-Reading Strategies & Questions 3) Teacher Read-A-Loud 4) Embedded Reading Comprehension & Story Prediction Questions 5) Post-Reading Discussion & Reflection 6) Post-Reading Doodle Notes and Coloring Topics covered will include perseverance, justice, friendship, grit, kindness, and more. Historical figures explored will include Ruby Bridges, Sally Ride, Nellie Bly, Sonia Sotomayor and many more!
Learning Goals
Students will be able to:
- Ask and answer questions about story elements such a plot and characters
- Use story details and illustrations to describe characters and events
- Relate the story to real-world situations
- Define new vocabulary in a text
- Practice discussion techniques in a safe and monitored setting

Younger students may need technical assistance or parent supervision during class.
Supply List
All curriculum will be provided by the teacher. Students will need access to crayons, colored pencils, or markers and will need to print their doodle note sheet before class.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a degree in history with a focus on women's history as well as a teaching degree. I am certified to teach social studies grades 4-12. I love learning about and sharing my love for women's history with young girls and women. I think it's important for young females to see themselves represented in history and stories around them. I also love reading, and I am trained in pre-reading and reading strategies to promote comprehension and retainment. I want to help instill in students a life-long love of learning and reading!
