Homework
1-2 hours per week. Each week there will be a list of 3-7 discussion questions for students to answer. These are to be answered in the students own words (i'm interested in their thoughts and opinions.) There will also be a list of 3-5 homework ideas. Each student is to choose one that is of interest to them. They will either be short essay papers (1 page), short films to watch, or a project.

Hello and welcome to Women's History: Inventors and Entrepreneurs! In this class, each week we will explore different women and their contributions to different fields. This is not a complete list of the women who's work will be highlighted. We will be looking at their lives, what inspired them, successes and failures, and the impact that they had on their industry and history. 


Week 1 - What are patents, copyrights, and trademarks? What does it take to become an entrepreneur?
Week 2 - Women in fashion and beauty  (Coco Chanel, Vera Wang, Madam CJ Walker, Caresse, Crosby)
Week 3 - Health (Mary Kenner)
Week 4 - Technology - (Hedy Lamarr, Grace Hopper) 
Week 5 - Science - (Katharine Blodgett, Stephanie Kwolek, Barbara Askins)
Week 6 - Business - (Lillian Gilbreth, Bessie Nesmith Graham)
Week 7 - Everyday items - (Margaret Knight, Mary Anderson, Ann Moore) 
Week 8 - Inventions by kids; what to do with your great ideas


Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST) -

-I will email each student a link that weeks lecture and assignments. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account that is embedded into the Outschool classroom page.  
-  Assignments will consist of discussion and essay questions, short research topics, Youtube videos, and worksheets. These will be posted on the classroom page. 
- In my flex classes, each family can determine the level of participation in the course. 
- Communication will be done through the Outschool classroom.  
-I will check in with each student several times during the week to check on progress of the homework, address any questions, or to engage in a discussion about the topic covered. Each student is encouraged to message (through the Outschool classroom) me anytime they have any questions or thoughts about the class.  
- Each week, there may be additional articles, videos, or pictures that will be posted to the classroom page to engage students in open conversations about that weeks topic. 
-Please message me before the start of class if you have any questions.

Learning Goals

Students will learn about women's history, how these women shaped their industry and society, and what are the steps for being an entrepreneur. 

Students will be working on different aspects of entrepreneurship, as well as exploring STEM oriented career fields.

Parental Guidance
In this class, there may be discussions of sexism, racism, and discrimination. All discussions will be at an age appropriate level. This class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform. This class may also utilize Kahoot. Learners will be given a direct link and game pin to play.

I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions.  I have a passion for history, organization, reading, and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.
