Throughout history, the voices of women have gone unheard. That does not mean that should continue. Let's sit down, grab a cup of tea (or any other drink of choice), and talk about it! In this ongoing class, students will opt to meet at the weekly meeting times for open discussions and lessons about a variety of women who have made history. Learners will gain the opportunity to learn about the lives, struggles and impact that individual women have had throughout history. The women that will be covered will include scientists, athletes, activists, political leaders and artists. These classes will be primarily lecture and discussion based, but will often include fun quizzes and games to keep things interesting! What did these women do that was so important? How do we see the affects of their impact today? These are some of the questions that learners will be able to answer after our lessons. Women that will be covered throughout this ongoing course: - Jane Austen (author) - Queen Elizabeth I - Catharine the Great (monarch) - Rosa Parks (activist) - Sojourner Truth (activist) - Marie Curie (scientist) - Ada Lovelace (mathematician) - Edith Cowan (activist, member of Australian parliament) - Amelia Earhart (pilot) - Eleanor Roosevelt (first lady) - Grace Hopper (scientist) - Frida Khalo (artist) - Hedy Lamarr (inventor & actress) - Naomi Parker (war worker & face of "Rosie the Riveter") - Lucille Ball (comedian) -Ella Fitzgerald (musician) - Jane Goodall (anthropologist) - Benazir Bhutto (prime minister of Pakistan) - Sheryl Swoopes (athlete) - Kathryn Bigalow (director) - Anne Frank (author, holocaust victim) & many more!
