Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
In this ongoing class, we will explore the stories and achievements of women scientists across various disciplines, including physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, and more. Through engaging discussions, presentations, and hands-on activities, we delve into the lives and work of pioneering women who have defied stereotypes and broken barriers in pursuit of scientific knowledge. Each week students will learn and explore more about a different female scientist and their contributions to the field of science! 
Weekly topics include: 
Week of June 3rd: Marie Curie and Radium
Week of June 10th: Katherine Johnson mathematician and Nasa Calculations
Week of June 21st: Jane Goodall primatologist and conservationist
Week of July 1st: Ada Lovelace mathematician
Week of July 8th: Lise Meitner physicist and Protactinium
Week of July 15th: Mae Jemison engineer, physician, and Nasa astronaut
Week of July 22nd: Rachel Carson marine biologist and conservationist

Some prior familiarity with science topics is useful but not necessary. Whether you're a budding scientist or simply curious about the contributions of women in science, this class offers a unique opportunity to broaden your understanding and appreciation of the impact of women in STEM.

Hello! My name is Rachael Snider I am a certified 9-12 grade science teacher and have been teaching science since 2014.  I have a B.A. in Environmental Biology and a Masters degree in Education. I have taught Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science, and Earth Science. My passion is to make science approachable for every student. I believe that all students are capable of success with encouragement, understanding, a little bit of hard work, and a lot of fun.  When I am not teaching I love to be outside in the garden with my dog Resses or baking!
