Welcome to women in history! In this class we will take a look a the lives and impact of different women, both from history and modern day. We will talk about their childhood, influences and inspirations, their accomplishments, and how history has remembered them. Each class will consist of a 20-25 minute lecture about the woman (or women) we are learning about, and then an open discussion about that woman in her life. This is a subscription class, which means: - Each week is an independent class. You pay for each week that you would like to join. You can pay for each week that you choose to attend class. There is no start or end date, so feel free to come and go as your schedule dictates. - As this is a weekly subscription class, there is no homework. Each class will consist of a powerpoint lecture, some videos, and a brief history about the field or time period that each woman lived in. The last 15-20 minutes of class will be a guided discussion about the journey each of these women took in their lives. Each student is encouraged to examine the topics discussed, look at how society helped or discriminated against each of these women, and explore how society has changed. Classes are 40-55 minutes long. The length of class will be dependent on the number of students enrolled and the discussion at the end of class. Class schedule subject to change. 2024 Week of June 17 Ada Lovelace June 24 Women Inventors July 1 NO CLASS July 8 NO CLASS July 15 Women in Math July 22 Women in Music (musicians/performers) July 29 Florence Nightingale August 5 Eleanor Roosevelt August 12 Women in the suffrage movement from around the world August 19 Wangari Maathai August 26 Christa McCauliffe (No Friday class) September 2 Frida Kahlo September 9 Harriet Tubman September 16 Junko Tabei September 23 NO CLASS September 30 Julia Child October 7 Elisabeth Vigee Lebrun October 14 Joan of Arc October 21 Women in American Politics October 28 Women in Politics November 4 Nellie Bly November 11 Women in Aviation November 18 Lesser Known Histories of Women - South America November 25 NO CLASS December 2 Lesser Known Histories of Women from around the world December 9 Bessie Coleman December 16 Women in Sports December 23 NO Class December 30 NO CLASS 2025 Dates Week of: January 6 Trina Robbins January 13 Virginia Hall January 20 Women in Greek/Roman Mythology January 27 Susan Ahn Cuddy February 3 Women in them Movie Industry (writers/directors/producers, etc) February 10 Chappell Roan February 17 Marie Tharp February 24 Grandma Moses March 3 Women Authors March 10 Antonia Brico March 17 NO CLASS March 24 Dr. Virginia Apgar March 31 Women in Ballet April 7 Beatrix Potter April 14 Lily Renee April 21 Cleopatra April 28 Women in Animation May 5 Joan of Arc May 12 Women in the LGTBQ+ community May 19 Artemisia Gentileschi/Elisabeth Vigee-Lebrun May 26 Women of the Harry Potter Movies June 2 Grace Hopper June 9 Sacagawea June 16 Boudica June 23 NO CLASS June 30 NO CLASS July 7 Women in Fashion July 14 Women in Math (Katherine Johnson, Maryam Mirzakhani) July 21 Women Writers July 28 Sojourner Truth August 4 Women Pirates August 11 Emmeline Pankhurst August 18 Marie Curie August 25 Empress Wu Zetian September 1 Women in Sports September 8 The Night Witches September 15 Wangari Maathai September 22 Marie Marvingt September 29 NO CLASS October 6 Mary Shelley October 13 Florence Nightingale and women in nursing (Mary Seacole, Ana Neri) October 20 Kurmanjan Datka October 27 Ruth Handler November 3 Frida Kahlo November 10 Ada Lovelace November 17 Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland - Around the World in 80 Days November 24 NO CLASS December 1 Women in Finance December 8 Women in WW2 December 15 Student Share - Learners will have up to 5 minutes to share about their favorite woman in history December 22 NO CLASS December 29 NO CLASS Please message me (through Outschool) if you have any questions before registering for class.
