In this three day Art Camp, learners will hear about three different women artists and create art in the style of each one. Each day will also focus on different mediums and style of art (Landscape, Portrait, Still Life). Day One: Still life in the style of Judith Leyster, we will look at her painting "Still-Life with a Basket of Fruit". We will discuss what a still-life is and create a composition using pencil. Day Two: Landscape in the style of Grandma Moses. We will talk about American Folk Art and think of a place: your neighborhood, or a favorite place, memory or where you have traveled. For this project we will use colored pencils. Day Three: Self-Portrait in the style of Frida Kahlo. We will talk a little about fantasy, surrealism, and Mexican Folk Art. For this art piece learners can use any kind of paint - acrylic, watercolors, or tempura. (A small mirror can come in handy when creating a self-portrait) Learners are encouraged to share any prior art knowledge and to participate in conversations and sharing their progress along the way. Step by step instructions will be given with lots of room for the learner to use their own imaginations and creativity. I believe in a playful attitude toward learning and enjoying the process of making art. I hope each learner will be inspired and see the many differences and contributions that women artists have shared over time.
