Wizard’s Debate the Book Class

Students will use text (movie) evidence from the Harry Potter books,1-3, to prove their case. Students will respectfully work together in small groups to defend the affirmative or negative side of a debate.

Description

Class Experience

Teaching students to understand how to confidently state an opinion, but also back their opinion up with research is so important! This class is the perfect way for students to practice supporting their opinion with evidence, while collaboratively working with a team. 

Students will be assigned to either the affirmative or negative side of a book topic from books 1-3. 

For example: Should Harry Potter receive a consequence for flying his broom without permission? 

We will randomly select...

While working collaboratively as a team, students will use text evidence to support their opinion.

Paper and pencil

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
