Description
Class Experience
Students will engage in book group discussions and creative writing each week. Through these discussions and writing we will work on comprehension skills, analyzing the characters and their actions, making connections, discussing the author's purpose for including different events and characters in the book, and comparing and contrasting different characters and events.
I am a licensed school librarian and classroom teacher. I have over ten years of experience leading book groups in the classroom, in the library, and online. I am a Hufflepuff that loves to spread my love of all things Harry Potter to anyone and everyone I encounter in my life.
This is a flex class with no set meeting times. Each week the student will be responsible for reading the assigned chapters (4-6 chapters a week), participating in the posted discussion questions, and completing a creative writing assignment. Discussion questions and writing assignments will be posted on Sunday and due on Saturday each week.
You will need a copy of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" by J.K. Rowling. This can be a print book, e-book, or audiobook. Many local libraries have the digital versions available for download via Overdrive, Hoopla, RB Digital, and other digital library distribution services. Check with your local library for more information!
Informal feedback will be provided weekly. If your child needs a letter grade or formal assessment to receive school credit, I will be happy to discuss that with you.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Harry Potter is a much loved children's book series about wizards and magic. The books in this series start out lighthearted but do get a little darker as the series goes on. Later books in the series deal with the bad guys wanting to kill people that don't have "pureblood" and the deaths of some beloved characters. I always recommend that parents read a book first to decide if it is a good fit for their child!
