Are you witty and quick? Then you'll love the limerick! To introduce learners to the limerick, I begin this class with images of Ireland, believed to be the home of the hilarious limerick. During this visual presentation, I encourage learners to respond to the images they see and to share their own impressions with the group. After presenting the fabled history of the limerick, I demonstrate the rhythm and meter of a limerick and share funny examples. As a group, we work together to identify the form, structure, and wit of these examples as well as interpret the themes of these short silly pieces of poetry. Learners are invited to participate in the analysis of the limericks and to ask questions about their defining features. Once we've studied the history and form of the limerick and reviewed examples of this rhyming poetic form, we'll get our creative juices flowing by writing limericks of our own. Our writing time will be in the form of a workshop with learners working both independently and in collaboration with fellow learners and me as needed. To close the class those learners who would like to are invited to share their creations with the group along with the imagery that inspired their writing. I look forward to exploring this silly, funny, side-splitting poetic form with you! *Please feel free to contact me if the cost of this class (or any of my classes) is a prohibitive factor to enrolling.

Welcome to my classroom!
For 30 years I've helped students appreciate literature, develop their rhetorical and creative writing skills, and better organize and complete tasks. A central goal of my teaching & coaching is empowering students with strategies they can make use of on their own, and in each class I encourage students to participate fully in our sessions together by contributing to class discussions and asking questions.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in English Education, a Master's Degree in Literature, and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. My current class offerings include literature studies, book clubs, creative writing and formal essay writing classes, and Executive Function coaching.
When I'm not teaching, I love spending time with my family and traveling! :)
