This engaging and festive class is made for young learners, immersing them in a joyful exploration of mathematical concepts intertwined with the magic of the winter season. Overview: In this festive math class, children will engage in a variety of activities designed to spark curiosity and build foundational math skills. Our winter-themed class is created to engage young minds, focusing on numbers up to 20, graphing, sorting, and measurement while immersed in the joyful spirit of winter. Sample Schedule: 5 minutes - Welcome & Ice Breaker 15 minutes - Mix of direct instruction with engaging independent activities on Nearpod. 5 minutes - Review & Closing As an early childhood educator I believe in the power of playful learning and my classes will reflect that. Classes will include songs/short videos and interactive digital games with multiple brain breaks throughout as needed. Purpose and Learning Goals: Through these engaging activities, children will not only reinforce their understanding of numbers up to 20 but also sharpen their graphing, sorting, and measurement skills. Each week will focus on a different skill, allowing us to really work on each concept in depth. Children will have the opportunity to answer open ended questions and interact with each other throughout. They will also be given the opportunity to share their thinking throughout each lesson. Join the Festive Fun: This class welcomes young learners to join in the fun at any time! Each session is crafted to engage and delight, ensuring that children can immerse themselves in the winter-themed math experience no matter when they join the adventure. Conclusion: At the end of this enchanting math journey, children will not only have expanded their math skills but will also carry the joy and a newfound excitement for learning math into their festive celebrations. Class Schedule: Week of December 4- Addition/Subtraction to 20 and decomposing numbers Week of December 11- Sorting by size, color, characteristics, etc. Week of December 18- Graphing data using bar graphs and picture graphs Week of December 25- Measurement with both cubes (visual) and inches (unit) **Winter objects featured in math lessons will be snowflakes, snowmen, snow globes, hot chocolate, mittens, polar bears, penguins, gingerbread.** Join us for a math-filled winter extravaganza that blends learning, fun, and the magic of the season! **Students that attend all 4 sessions will receive a certificate of completion** **Students will receive additional resources and hand outs to extend their learning at home if desired**
Learning Goals
Students will improve early math skills including numbers to 20, sorting, graphing data, and measurement. Students will learn addition and subtraction strategies while decomposing numbers to 20. Students will learn how to sort by a variety of characteristics including size, color, and object. Students will learn how both graph data and read a graph. Students will learn how to measure a variety of objects using both cubes and a rules (inches).
