Get your dancing shoes ready! In this one-time class we will go through basic ballet exercises for very beginners through fun and easy winter-themed exercises. We will start the class with introductions and an ice breaker question, and then move into fun snowy-inspired activities for warm-up and stretches. Then, we will get into some ballet basics and frosty creative movement activities. Children will learn through play, with activities inspired by the changing season. By the end of class, participants will have gone through ballet exercises including arm positions, balance, tendus, jettes, leaps and more as well as the art of grace. They will participate in creative activities involving imagery, storytelling and movement. This class will focus on getting used to moving our bodies in a way that feels safe and fun for little ones! Participants are encouraged to wear clothing that is comfortable and that they can move freely in. Costumes are welcome! Please bring a water bottle, and make sure there is enough room to move around in. We will be doing some stretches in class but it is recommended that participants stretch beforehand. No previous dance experience necessary. Caretakers: please stand-by the class as I will ask the participants questions and I will need you to help unmute our dancers.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! My name is Maya Golis. I have my Bachelor's of Arts in International Development from the University of Toronto. I am currently certified to teach ESL (English as a Second Language) and High-Five (Five Principles of Healthy Child Development). I have also been trained in disseminating mindfulness-based workshops to children by Merrymount Children's Center in London, ON. I am working towards my Master's degree in Education.
I have been teaching dance and theatre classes to children for over 10 years, with theatre companies such as Original Kids and extra-curricular programs with the City of London, ON. I truly learned the importance of arts-based education when I completed my internship at El Colegio del Cuerpo, a dance foundation in Cartagena, Colombia that aims to nurture artistic development in all of its students and professional dancers. I like to bring this experience to the classroom and infuse arts-based education and creativity into all of my classes. I have also been creating specialized classes for students with the company Tutor Doctor, most notably English classes for students with a variety of abilities and needs. I have been teaching ESL online for the past year, and have experience working with children ages 3-17 years old.
I love teaching! I think it's important to nurture a student's creativity and build their confidence so that they can not only learn and absorb content better, but also be an active agent in their personal development. I think creativity is an important tool and method, and I try to incorporate it in all of my classes. I can't wait to meet you! See you in the classroom.
