In this one-time seasonal class, learners will engage in science in a fun, hands-on way. Everyone will be encouraged to bring a winter or holiday item to class, and students will get the opportunity to interact and practice taking turns with a winter show and tell. Following show and tell, the teacher will give a brief overview of the scientific method and chemical reactions. To close class, everyone will create an "exploding snowman" using household items. Students will observe the signs of a chemical reaction
Two ziplock bags, two tissues or paper towels, approximately 1/4c baking soda, and 1.5c white vinegar, permanent marker (to make a snowman face on the bags!)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental assistance and supervision will be needed for the experiment.
