Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
Learn at your own pace and on your own schedule! I created this class for learners who don’t have time to fit in a live class but still need help with spelling and grammar. We will meet through recordings and message boards. If there are enough students at the same level I will hold game days they can participate in. * Students will be expected to check in a minimum of 2 times a week. This may include recordings, messages, or completed assignments, as well as interactive activities. * Students will receive feedback on all completed assignments and are able to post questions if they need additional help on a topic. Each week students will have a different spelling list and learn new grammar rules. Spelling lists will vary per student but increase difficulty each week. Sample Grammar concepts: * Class experience may differ depending on diagnostic tests and discussions about needed/desired focus areas. Week 1: Nouns- proper, common, plural, pronoun Week 2: Verbs: Tenses, action, linking, helping, subject-verb agreement Week 3: Adverbs and Adjectives, comparative, superlatives Week 4: Sentence Types and Punctuation; Sentence Fragments and Run-ons Week 5: Prepositions, commas, conjunctions Week 6: Prefixes, Suffixes, and Root words Week 7: Contractions and Possessives Week 8:Homophones, Synonyms, Antonyms My goal is to find patterns where students are struggling and adjust lessons to fit their needs and support them with individual homework assignments that fit their needs. When a student first joins they will be given a diagnostic spelling and grammar test so I can see what areas they need help in. Student assignments will vary depending on skill level. Students will be asked to write quick responses so that I can try to help with spelling.

Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in Southern California. I love working with students all around the World and of all different ages. I mainly teach classes that are Language Arts based (reading, writing, spelling, and grammar). I also teach about Historical figures, especially if I can tie them into Literature. I also love teaching about animals, and doing story time for the younger kids.
I have been teaching for over 15 years. I have taught in traditional school settings, charter schools, home schooled my own children, and taught online. I have a BA in English as well as a K-12 Teaching Credential. I am very passionate about helping people learn to love reading and writing. I also love to help people that need a little extra help with spelling and grammar. It makes me so proud and happy to have a student tell me how much they think they are improving or to get answers correct on something they missed before.
My approach to teaching is interactive and hands on. I want my students to learn while having fun. I ask a lot of comprehension questions, group work, pair work, and projects (depending on the class). I try to do as much of the work in class as possible so that kids can still be kids once they are done.
My background is in English but I love History and Science too (especially the experiments). It wouldn't be unusual in one of my classes to have to make something that just pops into my mind because it seems fun. I love animals, chocolate, and all things Disney!Reviews
