Class Experience

Students will be introduced to several comma rules and will have ample time to practice correctly applying them in sentences.

Session 1:
1. Using commas to combine two independent clauses with a coordinating conjunction
2. Using commas to separate three or more words in a list

Session 2:
1. Using commas around phrases that are not essential to the sentence; not using them around essential phrases
2. Using commas after an introductory clause

There is no required homework for this class.

However, a worksheet will be provided after each class meeting (2 worksheets total, 1 after each class meeting) that contains sentences that students can practice correctly placing commas within. An answer key will be provided.
Students do not need to bring any materials. After class worksheets for continued practice will be provided.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be informally assessed during the lesson as they volunteer to answer questions. Reteaching and modeling will be provided based on the informal assessment of whether students have confidence with the current comma rule.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
