Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
Students will explore art concepts and creative self-expression. Arts in the early years is vital to a child's development. Engaging in art activities allows students to develop their fine motor skills and increase their verbal skills by discussing their work. Children also strengthen their social and emotional skills by utilizing creative self-expression. Please note that as this is a self paced class, so no live meetings will occur. Learners will have access to videos to watch the teacher instruct the concepts.

Topics covered in this class include color recognition, color mixing, value, painting techniques, drawing techniques, and safe use of materials.

Some of the themes of the class will include snow, bird, snowflakes, penguins, and polar bears.

Class is structured as follows:
Welcome and Introductions
Warm Up
Directions and Art and Craft
Questions, Discussion, Sharing Work
Closing and Warm Goodbyes

Learners will complete various art activities with the teacher and other learners by posting videos or photos of their work on the classroom page. Slides and literacy activities will be utilized in class.

My teaching style is that of a constructivist. I believe that children learn best through learning in an interactive manner. Students will be able to paint, color, glue, and make works of art using their own creative self expression.

Welcome everyone! I'm Miss Sarah, and I am so happy you are here! Let's learn together!

I have been a preschool teacher for five years, and I have five additional years of classroom experience as a substitute teacher and teacher's aide. I earned my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Early Childhood Education from the University of Cincinnati. I have also taught English to children online for two years. I have been teaching on Outschool since 2020. I was awarded Teacher of the Year for my district in 2017, as well as Support Staff Member of the Year in 2015.

I consider myself to be a constructivist, so I believe that children learn best when acting upon their learning. When children engage in natural play, song, and movements, they connect with the content. When children enjoy educational activities, they are more interested and focused, which helps to better their progress in learning.

I love helping students learn how to read. I have fun, interactive classes that focus on letters, letter sounds, and reading strategies that help young learners gain confidence in reading while learning new skills. Students love going on reading adventures with our friend, Telly the Turtle, who is learning to read along with them. I am currently at university for a reading certificate in post graduate studies to further my own knowledge to best help students with reading mastery.

I am very passionate about animals and nature. I am a wildlife rehabilitator and currently volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitation center. I also volunteer at a local humane society assisting animals. These experiences make me uniquely qualified to teach about animals.

I love teaching all content areas. This includes math, art, science, music, social studies, and literacy. Classes that I teach are fun, interactive, engaging, and hands-on. We sing, have lively discussions, make crafts and projects, and dance! I hope to see you in class soon! -Miss Sarah
