Winter: Art Winter Camp: Tall Tales Paper Bag Puppet

Create paper bag puppets in this 4 day art camp. Students will learn the characteristics of tall tales while learning tall tale characters that span all across the USA. This winter camp is a little academic, and a lot of fun!

What's included

4 live meetings
3 in-class hours
Homework
There is no assigned homework. However, students will be inspired and encouraged to find resources that could be used to make a puppet theater.

Class Experience

Using a variety of media (books, video), the teacher will share the featured Tall Tale. Students will then color, cut and attach their puppet to the lunch style paper bag. While doing this, the class will discuss the story and what makes it a Tall Tale and not a Fable or Fairy Tale.

As time allows, students will be encouraged to make scenery or any attachments needed for the puppets. The teacher will encourage a puppet theater to be created outside of class. A large box from an appliance store would be so fun to use.
