Winter: Art Winter Camp: Tall Tales Paper Bag Puppet
What's included
4 live meetings
3 in-class hoursHomework
There is no assigned homework. However, students will be inspired and encouraged to find resources that could be used to make a puppet theater.Class Experience
Using a variety of media (books, video), the teacher will share the featured Tall Tale. Students will then color, cut and attach their puppet to the lunch style paper bag. While doing this, the class will discuss the story and what makes it a Tall Tale and not a Fable or Fairy Tale. As time allows, students will be encouraged to make scenery or any attachments needed for the puppets. The teacher will encourage a puppet theater to be created outside of class. A large box from an appliance store would be so fun to use. Lesson 1: Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox Lesson 2: John Henry Lesson 3: Pecos Bill and Sluefoot Sue Lesson 4: Mike Fink
Learning Goals
CC.2.RL.2 Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
My biggest goal for this class is that students would be creative and have fun.
