Winter Art Club - Seasonal Science and Directed Drawings - Ongoing
What's included
1 live meeting
40 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
Please watch the video to see each project. My classes will always remain secular and appropriate for young children. This class runs for the winter season, but each class can stand alone, i.e. students can join or leave at any time without needing additional information. In art, "There are no mistakes, just happy accidents." ~Bob Ross I always complete the artwork along with the children using an overhead camera that allows them to see what I am doing every step of the way. I truly believe that art is in the eye of the beholder and that while I guide learners through a directed drawing, I encourage each child to make their work unique and cherish the differences in each piece of art presented at the end of class. ***I have 2 different sections for this ongoing class. The learners meet once a week on the day/time of their choosing. Week 1 - (Dec 4) - Poinsettia Week 2 - (Dec 11) - Bringing Home the Christmas Tree Week 3 - (Dec 18) - Reindeer Week 4 - (Jan 8) - Polar Bear Week 5 - (Jan 15) - Winter Hat Week 6 - (Jan 22) - The Snowman and The Cardinal Week 7 - (Jan 29) - Penguin Week 8 - (Feb 5) - Groundhog's Day Week 9 - (Feb 12) - Valentine's Day Week 10 - (Feb 19) - Chinese New Year - Year of the Tiger Week 11 - (Feb 26) - Ming Vase with Cherry Blossoms This class will meet live for 40 minutes 1 time per week and is intended for young learners ages 5 to 9 years old. I love to engage my students with fun Scientific facts about the subject of our art. Art should tell a story and this conversation helps to bring their work to life. Additionally, we will learn about basic lines and shapes as we create a fun directed drawing for each of our projects. Directed drawings are step-by-step instructions modeled by the teacher to help young artists complete a picture. Students will then be able to creatively color each of their projects. (Students may need some extra time outside of class to finish coloring their drawings.) The benefits of directed drawing include enhanced listening skills, following directions, and fine motor development. Students will also have an introduction/review of vocabulary related to lines and shapes.
Learning Goals
We will work on directed drawings centered around winter themes while also discussing fun scientific facts.

Virginia Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I have been a certified teacher for 10 years. I taught 2nd grade for 8 years and now I teach Kindergarten! My students have truly enjoyed using art as an expression of creativity. Art has an amazing way of expanding the subjects of Math, Science, and Social Studies. I LOVE showing children how they can be young artists.
