Let's create different winter themed art projects, all while having fun and learning new art techniques. Art topics will include watercolor painting, drawing, watercolor resist art technique, and blending with oil pastels. We will discuss many elements of art while creating, such as composition, perspective, pattern, repetition, color theory, light, and expression. Art projects will also focus on the creativity and uniqueness of each student, with attention to individual styles. We will make a new art project each week. Week of Dec 2: Gingerbread House. Students will design their own gingerbread houses, and draw lots of fun candy details. We will use pencils, a Sharpie marker, watercolor paints and oil pastels. Week of Dec 9: Red Cardinal. Students will use pencils, oil pastels and watercolor paints to make bold colorful artwork. Week of Dec 16: Bear in a Sweater. Students will begin a sketch in pencil, then use Sharpie marker to create a patterned sweater design, and add texture to the bear's fur. Finally, students will add touches of watercolor paint to the sweater for color. Week of Jan 6: Northern Lights Landscape painting. Students will begin by designing their composition with pencil and Sharpie on watercolor paper. Then we will add striking colorful swirls in the sky, using the wet-on-wet technique to blend the colors. We will add dots of snow with white paint. Week of Jan 13: Hot Cocoa Mug. We will use a pencil, a black Sharpie marker, a white oil pastel, and watercolor paints. Students will design their hot cocoa mugs any way they want and be creative! Week of Jan 20: Design your own sweaters! Students will design sweaters and create their own artwork to place on the sweaters. We will learn how to draw chunky sweaters and we will need a pencil, a black Sharpie markers, and any coloring materials you would like. Week of Jan 27: Snowmen. We will use watercolor paints and oil pastels and practice blending techniques to make the snowman appear 3D. Week of Feb 3: Snow Globe Fun! We will use a pencil, a round object to trace, a Sharpie marker, white paint and watercolor paint. Learners will have plenty of opportunity for self expression. My teaching style is relaxed, and students will be able to learn, while also using their own imaginations to create art they enjoy. We will have lots of opportunity to show each other our art as we are creating. Learners will show their art to the group at the end of each class. I will have a positive critique of student's artwork at the end of each class.

Hello! I am an Art Educator and Artist. I love teaching art to all ages, especially elementary school and middle school. My art classes include watercolor painting, acrylic painting, drawing, elementary art projects that work on skill building, and learning about art history through fun projects about artists - including Non-Western and Women artists.
I teach art from my heart and aim to build self esteem in my students through the arts. I challenge students to find their inner artist through creativity and self expression. I believe in the process of art, individual expression, creative thinking, and problem solving. Each art project is designed to develop technical skills, artistic interpretation, and unique artwork. We have lots of fun while making artwork and socializing is encouraged during my art classes.
My art background began as a child. I loved to learn how to paint or draw anything and everything. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design, I became a children's textile designer in the fashion industry in NYC. While in New York, I attended fine arts classes at the Art Student's League and The New School. I moved to New York State's Hudson Valley, and am inspired daily by the landscapes and nature around me. I also am inspired by my pet cats, who may visit the classroom once in a while.
