Description
Class Experience
1. Students will learn a brief overview of the “Folk” and “Kawaii” art styles 2. Students will receive detailed instruction on how to draw a polar bear two ways 3. Students will learn about giving and receiving feedback
As a professional artist, my personal art style is “folk art.” This is a visually appealing form of storybook art that sparks the imagination of adults and children alike. I will never ever ever get tired of folk art! I love to combine folk art with elements of nature which offers me an amazing opportunity to teach science concepts while we learn art. Kawaii is a very different art style, but as a mom and teacher I have learned that kids in this age group tend to love Kawaii across the board. Using both styles offers them the ability to make artistic choices and to keep their brains energized and engaged with the creating process.
Finish your sketch by outlining it in ink and then coloring it in whatever medium you choose (ex. Paint, marker, crayon, etc.) Then, post it back in the classroom for me to admire, and let me know if you’d like it to be shared on Instagram and Facebook!
Paper, pencil (optional: ink pen and something to color with)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The learner progress is assessed by teacher and peer feedback, and if they wish to have their artwork shared online, they can come and see how other people love their art.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
