Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
- Create a map of new land with a unique name.
- Represent a biome's basic climate, landforms, and biotic and abiotic resources.
- Learn to draw dragons and create characters.
- Outline the plot for a story based on this world.
- Begin writing a story based on the world that you create!
- The map will be submitted through video and images.
- I will post additional videos as we go along.
I am an experienced classroom, afterschool program, and summer camp teacher.
Students may want to add detail to their maps, drawings, and stories between sessions if they would like more time to work.
- Sharpened pencils, fine point sharpies, colored pencils - A few large pieces of paper, 11x17 or larger for the map - Drawing paper, scratch paper, and lined notebook paper - Lesson handouts to go along with the slideshow/presentation for planning - Cotton balls or Pom-poms (about two handfuls).
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learners will be assessed by showing their work and continuing to create and add to the project components. I encourage students to ask questions verbally or in the chat over Zoom.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
I will use Google slides to share templates in the Outschool classroom.
We will discuss characters in the Wings of Fire books by Tui T. Sutherland. All work that students create will be unique and original. We are just using the characters and their location in her books as a discussion point about biomes, character traits, and adaptations.
