Drawing Dragons: Art Inspired by Wings of Fire (Beginners)

Wings of Fire - Fanfiction Camp

A week of all things dragon! Students will create their own dragon tribes using the perfect combo of biology and creative writing, then develop a history, character, and story. The perfect introduction to creative writing for reluctant writers, but also a fun way for experience writers to hone their skills with like-minded Wings of Fire fans. This is a social class where we share and offer feedback throughout the week, and find fun ways to build on and support classmates' creations.

Class Experience

I am the author of fifteen books for tweens and teens, including the PIP BARTLETT'S GUIDE TO MAGICAL CREATURES series (Scholastic), the ELLIE, ENGINEER series (Bloomsbury), and the DOUBLECROSS series (Bloomsbury). I have taught creative writing classes across the country at schools, libraries, colleges, and camps!
Students will have a small after-class assignment. While some students will inevitably want to sink their teeth into the assignment and spend the evening drawing and dreaming of dragons, the assignments can realistically be finished in a half hour or so, should your learner be particularly time-strapped!
4 hours 10 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Below are my general classroom rules and policies. These will also be explained to students when we begin class!
-For everyone's safety, and to ensure an engaging and social experience, students are required to have working microphones and video for the entirety of this class, positioned such that we can both hear and see them.
-Students are asked not to use filters or virtual backgrounds-- though if there is an important reason to use a virtual background, please just let me know ahead of time that your student will be using one (no questions asked!).
-Students will be asked to introduce themselves by sharing their name, pronoun, and a favorite book.
-The Zoom text chat is set to "host only", meaning students can chat with me, but not to one another or the entire classroom.
