Class Experience

Students will start by drawing the basic shape of the dragonfly using pencil. Next, they will use a sharpie to outline their final shapes and add patterns to the dragonfly body and wings. Finally, they will learn three water color techniques they can use to paint their drawing. I will show examples of the art principles, use demonstrations, and give students one-on-one feedback as they work. No prior experience needed. However, if you are a more experienced artist you will be challenged to your ability!

Learning Goals

Students will learn the basics to a successful composition. They will learn about the art principles of pattern, emphasis, and balance. Students will learn how to use the art elements of color, line, and texture to create interest in their work.

What I Teach: Studio art classes and cooking classes. This includes drawing, painting, three-dimensional art, and mixed-media.

My Education: I have my Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Messiah College and Masters of Education from Arcadia University. I have my Pennsylvania Teaching certificate in the areas of Art (k-12), Family and Consumer Science (k-12), and Middle School Math (6th-8th). I also have Applied Behavior Analysis training for beginner, intermediate, and advanced learners.

My Experience: I have been teaching professionally for 11 years. During this time I taught Art (k-12) in both a public school and a private school. I also taught foods classes as a Family and Consumer Science Teacher. Then, in 2015 I started teaching teaching as a paraprofessional in an ABA Autistic Support Classroom (4th-6th). I spend a lot of my day creating and implementing inclusion modifications and teaching social skills.

What to Expect in a class: Art lessons will include use of art elements and principles. Students will be introduced to art vocabulary, tools, and techniques that are essential when creating visual art. I will guide the process of creativity highlighting strengths, and encouraging students to work through weaknesses.

My teaching Philosophy: My goal is to help learners find meaning in their own personal experiences and learn successful ways to communicate. My classes involve reflection and expression. I strive to create an environment where students can ask questions, try new things, and discover their voice.

About me: When I am not teaching I love to be outside!! I enjoy running, hiking, and swing dancing!
