Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn about European culture. Students will learn about an art form that is traditional in Portugal. Students will be inspired to create a modern form of a handicraft from Europe.
Mrs. Harrison has a master's degree in Integrating the Arts into the Curriculum from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She was a public school teacher in grades kindergarten through 4th grade for over thirty years and was the owner of a small tutoring business that focused on literacy and the arts. As luck would have it, she joined Outschool in March of 2020 and has been teaching art, poetry, and early literacy classes ever since. Judy became intrigued with this traditional handicraft while she was walking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route through the Minho Province of Northern Portugal. She had the good fortune of meeting artisans who are keeping this tradition alive in the 21st century.
Students may need a little extra time to finish adding colorful details on their Valentine Handkerchief.
