In a land formed by volcanoes and glaciers over millions of years, a variety of beautiful subarctic animals thrive. In this installment of the Wildlife Tours series, we will explore the unique ecosystems in Iceland and the many species of animals that live on Iceland's fjords, lava fields, mountains, and meadows.

Topics covered include (minor changes may occur based on student interest):
1) The geography and ecology of Iceland
2) A brief history of Iceland and how humans contributed to Iceland's increased biodiversity
3) Case studies of specific animals including puffins, minke whales, Icelandic horses, harbour seals, and arctic foxes.
4) Adaptations that help these animals thrive in subarctic conditions

This class will be an interactive lecture using slides, photos, and videos, as well as discussions throughout the class.
Learning Goals
Students will increase their knowledge of zoology and wildlife ecology by learning about the unique ecosystems and diversity of wildlife in Iceland.

Parental Guidance
Any discussions of climate change are based on the widely accepted knowledge of the secular scientific community.

I am a high school biology, environmental science, and zoology teacher and have experience working with many animals, including from sloths to poisonous frogs to sea anemones.
