Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Welcome to Wildlife Scientist: North American Gray Wolf Self-Paced Edition.

Over the next 4 weeks, you will learn about the North American Gray Wolf by exploring the types, physical characteristics, adaptations, habitats, family and social behaviors. You will also take a deep dive into their conservation status, specifically the "why" and "how" and "what" wildlife biologists and conservationists are doing to save this species from extinction in the wild.

OUR CLASS OBJECTIVE: In this wildlife science class, students will learn important facts about the characteristics, habitat, diet, family life, and the ongoing field work behind the conservation status of the North American Gray Wolf and its North American subspecies.

Learning Activities:
Examples include: a creature labeling and classification activity, matching and identifying creature concepts, writing vocabulary words and conservation brainstorming worksheets designed to support science, writing and math concepts. I'll also include templates or art prompts for creative enrichment.

Available Assessment:
I created an assessment quiz using Kahoot and it is posted as an optional link that opens up right on the classroom page. Please contact me if you would like to have the quiz in a worksheet form. This is optional and no account is necessary to take the quiz.

Questions and Feedback: I am available for lesson feedback or questions, please message me through the classroom.

REAL SCIENCE LESSONS: Lessons are made available on the classroom page, posted as video links and will include worksheet activity packs. I will also post a video of myself going over the worksheet activities onscreen, connecting it back to the learning in the video lesson.
Learning Goals
Students will learn facts about the physical characteristics of the Wolf as a species such as size, features, diet and habitat.
Students will learn how scientists use information about wolves to compare and classify them into groups.

Syllabus

4 Lessons
over 4 Weeks
Lesson 1:
North American Gray Wolves: Introduction and Species
This lesson will be an introduction to the types of Gray Wolves found in North America. You will learn about the Gray Wolf as a species and explore their similar/different physical characteristics, specialized adaptations, and different habitats.

You will also be taking a deep dive into the overall conservation status of Gray Wolves, specifically the "why" and "how" and "what" wildlife biologists and conservationists are doing to save this species from extinction in the North American wild.
Lesson 2:
The Arctic Wolf
This lesson will take an in-depth look at the Arctic Wolf, one of the subspecies of Gray Wolves. You will learn about the unique physical skills and adaptations that help them survive in the extreme habitat of the Arctic north.

You will also be taking a deep dive into their habitat and conservation status by exploring some of the dangers they face from aspects of climate change and human proximity.
Lesson 3:
The Northwestern Gray Wolf
In this lesson, you will learn about another subspecies of the Gray Wolf known as the Northwestern Gray Wolf. You will learn details about their Northwest habitat, and how their physical skills and characteristics enable them to survive in extreme weather patterns.

You will also learn about their conservation status, specifically how deforestation may be affecting their populations on Alaska's west coast archipelagos.
Lesson 4:
Mexican Gray Wolves
In this lesson you will learn about a critically endangered subspecies of the Gray Wolf, known as the Mexican Gray Wolf. You will learn about their physical characteristics, social behavior and how important they are to having a balanced ecosystem.

You will also learn about their conservation status, specifically the "why" and "how" and "what" wildlife biologists and conservationists are doing to save this species from complete extinction in the North American wild.
