US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
In this ongoing class for young explorers, we learn about the animals, plants, and fungi of North America. Each week we focus on a new organism such as elk, jackrabbit, monarch butterfly, redwood tree, etc. through discussion, images, video, and art. In the first half of the meeting we learn about the week’s species. In the second half we draw a picture of the organism together while discussing what we have learned. Explorers are invited to draw along step by step with the instructor, or create their own. There is an opportunity to share our creations at the end of each meeting. This is a highly interactive class. Learner participation is regularly encouraged. We investigate questions such as: - Where can this species be found? - How does it survive? - What roles does it play in its ecosystem? - What is its lifecycle? - How to recognize their tracks and signs in the wild. Learners will gain an understanding and appreciation for the amazing and diverse wildlife of North America. Upcoming topics: October 5: Ponderosa Pine October 12 : Grizzly Bear October 19: Rattlesnake October 26: Raccoon

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree from American Military University
Hello! My name is Arwen, and I am absolutely passionate about space science, the environment, and teaching! I offer courses about the solar system, planets, natural processes, soil, and the environment. I am a NASA Solar System Ambassador and science author. My Master's is in Space Science, and I have undergraduate degrees in Agricultural Ecology, and Natural Resource Management. I am currently working on a doctorate in STEM education.
I believe curiosity and learning are human instincts. I try to honor that by asking the learners lots of questions and encouraging them to think about information in new ways.
When not teaching, you can find me hosting "Found in Space: A Science Podcast for Kids and Teens" or playing Dungeons and Dragons and exploring the Southwest with my three homeschooled kiddos and our big, fluffy orange cat named Moose!
I like to keep class sizes small so each learner can get individualized and full attention. Please feel free to reach out.
