Wildland fires are a force of nature that can be nearly impossible to prevent and difficult to control, but in the right place at the right time, wildland fires can create many environmental benefits. In the wrong place at the wrong time, wildfires can wreak havoc, threatening lives, homes, communities, and natural and cultural resources. Students will learn about fire behavior, firefighters, hotshots, smoke jumpers, fire aviation, fuels management, prescribed fires, wildland fire resources, and prevention in this course. Students will be challenged to understand the science behind forest fires and what we, as good stewards of our Earth, can do to prevent fires.
