Class experience
* This class is appropriate for ages 5-18 I have taught many classes with a mix of youngsters and teenagers and never had a problem **Unless there is an emergency I do not mind teaching a class with only 1 student in it. So there is no need to worry about me canceling for that reason. In this 5 day Camp Your student will learn: Day 1 - The survival mindset/shelter making/several ways of making a fire Day 2 - Finding water and treating it for consumption/finding food (berries, plants, and...
What your student(s) will learn in this class will significantly improve their chances of staying alive, if they are lost in the wilderness.
I am a U.S. Military veteran, former firefighter/first responder, and have been an outdoorsman and survival enthusiast for over 25 years. I have also been in several unfortunate scenarios where I have had to use my survival skills to stay safe and alive, such as experiencing hypothermia, heatstroke, encountering dangerous animals, and sustaining serious injuries. My training and experience includes: -U.S. Coast Guard. During my time serving, I participated in many federal law enforcement and search and rescue missions, and was part of a hurricane response team in South Florida. -I was a Firefighter/First Responder for 10 years. -I have taught basic first aid, and emergency preparedness to many children, and adults. -I have had a great deal of training in urban & wilderness survival, survival psychology, critical incident peer support, emergency management, and disaster preparedness. -I have also been on many wonderful outdoor adventures and had the unique privilege of mentoring under other fellow veterans which include: special operations servicemen, military medics/ corpsman, and combat survival instructors.
Please bring a bottle/glass/cup of water to each class to hydrate with me, as proper hydration is important.
In this class we will talk about fire making techniques but I always emphasize that students should always and only practice with their parents. We also talk about hunting and trapping animals and field dressing, but I don't show any graphic or bloody pictures at all. We also talk about knives, knife sharpening and knife safety. No need to bring a knife to class though.
