Class Experience

Being able to tie a few knots is an important skill that can help you out in countless ways throughout life. Whether it's tying your shoe, a project around the house, or even sporting activities like camping, sailing, and rock climbing - correct knots can keep you safe and get you out of a jam!

During this class, students will learn the basics of 4 different knots. We will discuss the history of each knot, what situation to use for each knot, how to tie the knot, and finally how to practice your knot-tying skills!

This class will not just be about learning how to tie knots though, students will also build critical hand and finger muscle movement skills as they practice tying each knot! As the teacher, I will guide the students through the process of tying each knot through modeling and describing what I am doing.

In the materials section below, you can find everything that you will need for this class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Mr Keith! I live in Colorado and have had a passion for teaching others for years. I'm so excited to meet all of you and welcome you to my classroom. I've worn several hats throughout my career including ranger for the National Park Service, teacher, outdoor instructor, small business owner, and attorney.

I taught middle school social studies and math early in my career before heading off to law school. Now I'm a practicing attorney. I'm so excited about Outschool and the opportunity to teach again. I am very experienced with modifying and accommodating skills and curriculum to meet the students’ needs. I am also very good at motivating students to learn and getting them engaged. 1-1 and small group learning is my specialty.

I am passionate about many subjects but teach mostly about the outdoors and government. I like to emphasize the "OUT" in Outschool for getting outside! I have seen first hand with my students how important it is to know the fundamentals of the outdoors and civic life as well. I believe children learn when they are having fun and are engaged. I do a lot with hands-on activities and movement etc. After being a teacher for several years I have found many creative ways to adapt learning to fit the learner and get them motivated.

When I'm not working, I'm out having fun in the mountains! I've climbed over 30 of the highest mountains in Colorado! During my travels, I've had many encounters with deer, elk, moose, mountain goats, and even bears! I can't wait to share with you all of these adventures and more!
