Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Would you like to learn about wolves? Maybe you already know a lot about them and would like to share your knowledge! This lesson is perfect for you! You'll also have a chance to answer questions and read, too!

Do you want to know what a wolf is?
Why are wolves unpopular with some people?
Why have they disappeared from certain countries?
Are wolves stronger than dogs? Are wolves related to dogs?
Can a wolf be kept as a pet? What about wolf-dogs?
What about extinct wolves? Which wolf died out at the end of the last Ice Age?
How many wolves live in Montana? What are snares, and why are they dangerous to wolves?
Comprehension skills are essential when trying to pass exams at school. This fun lesson helps students learn about wolves while building these skills. I will share the lesson on my screen via Zoom so children can read along and discuss the material.

The aim of this lesson is to improve comprehension in non-fiction while developing speaking and listening skills.

Parent's note: A child’s ability to understand new vocabulary in a given text is closely linked to strong comprehension skills. Teachers work hard to develop these skills in the curriculum, but it is time-consuming. This short, information-packed lesson gives children dedicated time to practice and refine their skills in this area. The goal is to encourage children to enjoy discussions and comprehension activities.

This colorful lesson focuses on the wolf, including the impact of climate change on wolf populations. If your child loves learning about animals, they’ll enjoy discovering more about wolves!

Learning Goals

To be able to improve reading comprehension skills.
To be able to answer retrieval style questions.
To be able to answer inference questions.
To be able to learn new vocabulary.
To be able contribute to a discussion and listen to others.

It is very useful if older learners are able to use basic Zoom tools such as the pen tool or the typing tool.

For younger learners it is fine if they are just interacting and watching, older students may wish to annotate directly onto the screen or type in the chat when answering a question or quiz if appropriate.

Access to a printer or to be able to take a photo and upload this to the classroom if tasks are completed would be useful.

I am looking forward to you joining me for this particular lesson linked to science and geography about the wolf. As a qualified primary school teacher, I am lucky enough to be able to teach as part of the curriculum about a variety of animals. I focus on: habitat, diet, behavior, their young and some history about the wolf and I am passionate about helping learners apply these areas of learning to not only the wolf but to find out the same for other animals too. Wolves are fascinating creatures.
