Each week, we will look at photos of wild animals and draw them while sharing animal facts and stories. Learners are welcome to request favorite animals for upcoming sessions; starting in January 2021, there is a proposed schedule of animals, posted below, but learner suggestions are still welcome. My drawing approach for this age is guided observation: learners will not copy my drawing, but observe carefully to create their own interpretation of what the animal looks like. I will be asking...
Students will practice drawing animals, and meet peers who share their interest in wildlife.
There is no homework, but sometimes a learner may want to finish a drawing after class time is over. Learners may also choose to prepare for next week's class by learning more about the animal we plan to draw, but it is not required to do so.
Learners will need a sketchbook or a folder with paper (drawing paper or white copy paper, painting paper if using paints), a pencil, an eraser, and any kind of coloring materials: crayons, markers, colored pencils. If students have paint, pastels, or other fun materials, we will be sure to incorporate them as an option, but these aren't required.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be sharing their drawings by holding them up for the teacher to see, and to receive feedback.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
