Wild About Cooking Flex: Holiday Treats 1
Class experience
In this four-part FLEX class, students will learn how to make holiday treats from scratch to share with family and friends. This class will be a combination of PowerPoint, demonstration, discussion (in the Outschool classroom) and will incorporate interactive video. Students can participate along as the teacher leads them through the steps of the recipe. In addition to learning new recipes, students will gain confidence and experience in their own kitchen. At the end of the classes, students will: -be able to describe the process of making homemade hot chocolate -be able to identify the steps in creating pumpkin spice -be able to recall the steps to making pumpkin butter -be able to demonstrate the creation of the Peppermint Bark -be able to paraphrase the steps of making homemade bread in a bag -be able to name the steps of the recipe in a cranberry orange cookie recipe -be able to label recipe cards -be able identify three keys to a great grocery list -be able to explain how items are priced
Since my twins were extremely young, they have always been in the kitchen with me cooking and creating. We learned to adapt recipes to fit our dietary needs as one of my daughters was diagnosed with severe food allergies as a toddler.
Homework Offered
Students will make four recipes a week and post about their results in the classroom. Students will also have discussion questions to answer as well as activities to complete about grocery shopping and recipes.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

1 file available upon enrollmentAn ingredient and cooking tools list will be provided by the teacher each week of the class. Items such as flour, sugar, butter, pumpkin puree, and more will be used in this class. Students can use a mixer, stand, handheld, or mix ingredients with mixing bowls and spoons. Baking dishes, measuring cups, measuring spoons are also examples of tools needed.

By enrolling in the class, families accept full responsibility for their learner's safety which includes but not limited to kitchen materials and the ingredients. Parental guidance is requested/needed in assisting the student in the kitchen as students will be using items like a stove, oven, knives, etc. Families are responsible for student safety in the kitchen Families are responsible for making necessary changes to recipes to avoid allergens. Families need to notify Erin Girard ASAP about any potential allergies. Substitutions can be made for a majority of the recipes. Each family is responsible for knowing what ingredients their family can have. Please contact the instructor for any questions. Videos are posted via teacher's private YouTube channel in the classroom. Videos can be watched in the classroom without going to YouTube. Ed Puzzle is also used for this class as a supplement for extra activities.
