In this one-time seasonal fall course we will cover plant science discussing why the leaves change color and fall off in the autumn going into the winter season.
Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
In this one-time seasonal course we will cover the changes that occur in the landscape when plants prepare themselves for winter. We will cover the topics of seasonality and how plants achieve dormancy to survive frost until the next spring. We will discuss the environmental trigger that begins the seasonal change, and the processes envolved that reveal the striking fall colors many love and enjoy. Students will improve their understanding of the fall season. They will learn terms like anthocyanin, carotenoid, chlorophyll, deciduous, dormancy, and senescence as it pertains to plant science and the change of seasons in autumn from summer to winter.
I have my Bachelor's degree in horticulture from Iowa State University.
No supplies are neccesary for this course. Pen or pencil and paper for notetaking is always encouraged though!
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
No formal assessment will be given. Certificate will be awarded after completion of this course.
35 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Class will be conducted over Canva presentation and screen share on Zoom. Students will not need anything more than Outschool and Zoom for course time. Slides presented in the course and certificate of completion can be printed with a free Canva account and will be shared in the classroom postings. Parents will need a Canva account to access these materials.
