Class Experience

In this one-time class, children will meet a real live hedgehog, a lesser tenrec and some spiny mice, which all live with our Lion Learners presenter Kristan. They will learn all about them, how they are different to one another, why these animals are all spiky and what the spikes are made from. We will talk about hedgehog conservation. Children will be given plenty of chance to ask and answer questions and share their own knowledge about animals. Learners are invited to see if they can find something spiky to bring along to show us in the lesson!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, we are Rachael & Kristan from Lion Learners. We teach classes about all things animal! We're crazy about animals, and look after lots of animals at our homes. We would love to introduce you to some of our wonderful animal friends, and teach you all about them. There is so much to learn - and it's very important to learn about how and why we need to look after wild animals - and how to look after our pets properly too!

We really believe that if children learn about the importance of conservation, and appropriate pet ownership from a young age, then they are likely to have a positive impact on caring for our world and the animals in it when they are older. So we have classes on all sort of animal topics - how to care for your pets, habitats such as rainforest and desert, cold blooded animals, warm blooded animals, minibeasts and a whole lot more.

Lion Learners is a small animal experience company based in the UK. Kristan & Rachael have been running educational workshops with the Lion Learners animals for 7 years. We both love working with children and have lots of experience. Kristan is a qualified primary school teacher in the UK and has taught for over 15 years. Rachael has worked in schools for 12 years, helping children to create outdoor spaces in their school grounds to benefit animals and people too.

We have lots of animal friends at our homes who'd really love to meet you - in our picture you can see Rachael with Dave - he's a duprasi, otherwise known as a fat-tailed gerbil, and he really makes us laugh with his busy personality - he's always rushing about on his wheel, racing in, on, under and through things and generally being a cheeky chap. We hope you can meet us, Dave and our other animal friends very soon!
