Learning to add is one of the foundational and critical steps to understanding Math. Therefore, it is incredibly important to master the basics of addition. This class is perfect for students who need an introduction or a refresher in addition. Every week we will start slow with counting, simple single-digit addition, and slowly progress to double-digit numbers, and the last week we will try triple digits as a class. There will be plenty of chances for your learner(s) to participate. We will work through problems as a class, and students will also work together to solve problems. After taking this class, students will feel more comfortable with addition. Class Breakdown: 1) Greetings/Class Rules 2) Introduction to Addition (Brief) 3) Counting Practice (Class) 4) Practice Problems (Class) 5) Practice Problems (Group) 6) Goodbye/Questions! Weekly Breakdown Week 1 •Count to 20 and 50(everyone gets a turn) •Scavenger hunt (ex: Count the Halloween object (hat and pumpkin)) •Simple adding (single digits) Week 2 •Count to 100 (everyone gets a turn) •Scavenger hunt (ex: How many Cats vs. Dogs) •Adding simple double digits Week 3 •Count by 2 to 20 or 50 (everyone gets a turn) •Scavenger hunt (ex: Add the Dinos) •Adding harder double digits Week 4 •Count by 5 to 50 or 100 (everyone gets a turn) •Scavenger hunt (ex: How many Small Fish vs. Big Fish) •Adding simple triple digits *This is a tentative schedule. It is subject to change based on students' abilities. However, single, double, and triple digit addition will be covered.
