Why Are Fractions so Hard? Learn Fractions Without All the Math.

A major part of learning Math is that it teaches you to problem-solve and think critically, yet, most students struggle with fractions even though you can argue it is one of the most used topics in mathematics (baking, measuring, counting change, and sales)! Fractions tend to be difficult because there are several rules and tricks you learn, but if you do not understand why those tricks work, fractions may seem like a foreign language. What is a 1/2 plus a 1/4? Well, that requires math but what if I asked you, "What is a quarter of a pizza added to half a pizza?", you can probably see how easy it would be to solve that. The majority of the lesson will take place on a whiteboard camera, so I can visually demonstrate fractions using printouts, cutouts, figures, and more. Although this is a one time course, we will be doing plenty of examples and students are welcome to bring their own questions if they like! Critical Questions / Objectives What is a fraction? How does a percentage or decimal relate to a fraction? How do you add, subtract, multiple, and divide fractions visually? What are some real world applications of fractions?

Teacher expertise and credentials
Websites, apps, video games, drones, and robots! The world of Computer Science is vast but what most don't know is that there is a lot of creativity involved! Design your own logos for your websites, model your own figures and characters for your video games, or create an animated YouTube video. Learning computer science can be an extremely creative and rewarding experience!
When I was around 12 years old, I jumped into a huge, nasty dumpster in my apartment complex and dumpster dove the first computer that I learned to code on. From there on out, messing with computers was my favorite hobby. I excelled in Computer Science and achieved several awards in programming competitions. I got an awesome opportunity to TA a first year Computer Science class, and it proved to be an extremely rewarding experience which is part of why I love teaching today!
I attended school for a Bachelor's in Computer Science and Engineering but after a couple of years, I decided that I wanted to become a fully certified teacher straight out of college. Not only that, but I wanted to get certified in a different State than the one I lived in, so I saved for a while, packed my bags, and moved! I am enrolled in school, and currently pursuing a B.A. Science Education. Once I graduate, I will be seeking to teach High School Science and Computer Science.
I have worked some pretty cool jobs before from Web Developer, IT Technician, and I ran my own small computer repair business. I am now currently working on a video game I plan on releasing later on! Throughout my experience, I have learned a lot about the real world of IT and software development and since I love teaching, I decided to make that my job! I am excited to be here, and I am excited to teach about the awesome thing’s technology can offer from making websites, videos games, virtual reality, and of course, Minecraft!
