Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
I am excited to work with your student! I enjoying teaching and will be offering classes on creative writing, mythology, public speaking, writing techniques, sewing, and a variety of topics related to English/Language Arts.
I developed a variety of lessons that cover diverse approaches to reading, writing, and discussion. I focused on developing writing techniques and procedures that provide students multiple strategies they can walk away with. Most importantly, I have recognized that I am a student first and a teacher second. This may seem slightly contradictory, but the minute I stop learning, changing or growing, is the minute I lose my effectiveness as an educator. This personal reflection stems from my continual research and is a practice I wish to transfer to my students—to lead by example. My longstanding goal is to help students develop connections to a diverse range of historical, social, and cultural content by teaching them transferrable skills such as close reading, critical thinking, various writing modes, collaboration, and effective communication.
I spent four years teaching English/Language Arts to middle and high school students. Additionally, I spent my summers teaching interactive, environmental topics to preschool and elementary students. I have a Bachelor's in English and Education, as well as, a Master's in English and Creative Writing.
I am a mother of three, a Marine Corps veteran, a teacher, and a student (I'm always trying to learn something new).
