Hello! My name is Tina and I love to learn and teach.
I am the oldest from a homeschooling family of 7 with an age difference of 19 years, so I have been teaching for the majority of my life. I graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas with my BA in Healthcare Administration. I recently earned both my MHA and MBA from Louisiana State University, both of which have taught me the value of research and asking the right questions. I have taught ESL online for 3 years. Along with homeschooling my younger siblings, I currently help teach my many nieces and nephews and coordinate many different activities for homeschool groups and boy scouts.
I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions. I have a passion for history, organization, reading, and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.
I am also an Outschool ACE Educator, which means that I continually seek out ways to improve my teaching skills and knowledge, as well as the learner experience. Some of the seminars/courses that I have attended in the past are: Foundations for Teaching and Learning About Native Americans; The Presence and Absence of Asian America: What Truths Lie Beyond the Headlines; Using the “Diary of Anne Frank” to Amplify Students’ Voices; Painting a Just Picture – Art and Activism.
My approach to teaching is to encourage the student to have fun and enjoy learning. I believe in the power of group discussion and encouraging the students to express their own thoughts. My classes will consist of brief lectures, which may include recordings or short videos, and guided group discussions. The goal of my flex classes is to encourage the students to reflect on the lesson, form their own thoughts and opinions, and to highlight the value of research.
I have a lot of passions and interests that I would love to share with more students - history, mythology, cooking, prepping, journaling, and reading. I am always interested in learning about different people throughout history and how they made their mark. Even as a young student, I would take as many history classes as were available and always had a book in my hand. Discovering people and events from long ago has always fascinated me. I continue to see out my own personal educational opportunities to further my knowledge in history and the people who shaped it.
I believe that in every book we read or every historical figure we learn about, there is something that we can implement in our own lives to help achieve our goals. My goal in teaching is to help students recognize learning opportunities and inspire them to achieve success.
Office/Email hours Monday-Friday 7am -7pm PST.
I look forward to seeing you in class!
