Class Experience

Do you ever wonder why diamonds are so expensive, yet air is free? Who sets the price for your favourite candy?
This class will help you answer these questions by giving you a quick but helpful lesson on:

* The law of Supply and Demand
* The invisible hand of the market
* Scarcity and value

This class does not require any previous knowledge but we will be using simple linear graphs. Your teacher will carefully explain these graphs to you.

We will be using the whiteboard in the classroom and a few historical examples to understand Economics. The class will be made up of interactive lecture, Q&A, and fun discussion.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Karem.

My teaching philosophy: learning is about critical thinking. In the 21st century kids can easily access information and facts. My jobs is not to give them a handful of facts to memorise, but to help them analyse the information they have. To build the critical thinking and communication skills they need to succeed now and in the future.

I have been teaching for 20 years. I have a PhD from Oxford University in International Development and have taught at various universities as well as consulted for various governments and NGOs. I have also tutored students in secondary school (11-18 year olds). 6 years ago I became a home educator, spending much time teaching my boys (primary age) and their peers. I like to use all these experiences to build and teach fun and fascinating classes on Politics, Philosophy, Sociology, Economics, and Anthropology.
