Description

Class Experience

Students will gain awareness of the wildlife that exists all around them even in their own neighborhoods, backyards and cities.
Students will use knowledge and critical thinking to form hypothesis about animal behavior and activity.
Students will be able to identify common animal tracks, as well as the likely places to find those tracks and animals.
All assignments are individual and optional and will require some parent assistance for purchasing supplies and preparing the activities.
Week 1-2: Watch two 5 minute videos of animals caught on game cams, or backyard cameras. Order or shop for footprint casting supplies. ( I will send you my recommendations)
Week 2-3: Using either pre made molds ordered online or real tracks, create castings of animal footprints. Prepare to present your castings during week 3 class, including what the animal is, How you found the tracks, two interesting facts about that animal, and a summary of your experience making the casting.
Materials for optional footprint casting and show/tell activity: Casting Plaster available on Amazon or any plaster of Paris from the hardware store $8-12 Optional pre made footprint mold: $15 PROVIDED RESOURCES - Animal tracks identification guide - Wonder Wild school Journal Page
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
