US Grade 3 - 5
Each week students will learn about a different person in history from inventors to politicians to activists and more. A wide variety of men and women will be covered from Ancient History to Colonial times to the mid-twentieth century. Students will learn when and where they were born. We will discuss what their life was like when they were growing up. We will look at what kind of education they received if any at all. Students will then learn about and discuss what they did to become historically important. In some classes we will compare and contrast different people we are learning about and have learned about. We will meet for 1 hour and 10 minutes once a week. Each week a new biography will be presented. Open-ended questions will be asked and students are encouraged to share their thoughts and opinions. Each class will have different forms of media used to present the biography being discussed. A basic reading level is needed. Students will also complete various interactive assignments such as drawing a historical scene, creating their own clothing design, building a diorama out of items found around the house, doing an internet scavenger hunt, and much much more. Below is a list of biographies that we will be covering or have possibly been covered. Upon enrollment, if there is someone you would like to have added please send an email.
